CORE COMMUNITY
APPROACH
Every person deserves dignity, not a label. Walk with families as they build a stronger future.
We Start with Dignity.
People living in poverty are not problems to be fixed. They are neighbors with gifts, courage, ideas, and potential. Many are doing their best while facing overwhelming barriers — transportation, housing, employment, health, childcare, debt, isolation, trauma, and a lack of reliable support.
Core Community creates a safe, welcoming place where families are seen, heard, honored, and equipped.
At the table, there is no shame.
There is encouragement. There is accountability.
There is practical learning. There are relationships that last.

Poverty isn't always visible.
Neither is the shame.
Neither is the fear of asking for help.
Or the exhaustion of trying to hold everything together.
Core Community is Designed for Rural Communities in Kansas.
Core Community was developed with Kansas rural communities in mind. The program recognizes that trust, relationships, and local leadership are critical to success.
Rural communities are built on relationships. We know our neighbors. We see each other at school events, church dinners, county fairs, ballgames, grocery stores, and Main Street businesses.
But many families are still quietly struggling.
Rural communities face unique challenges that often go unseen:
-
Limited access to healthcare, education, and social services
-
Limited childcare
-
Fewer employment and economic growth opportunities
-
Transportation and infrastructure barriers
Core Community helps communities move from awareness to action.

Instead of asking, “Why don’t they just get ahead?” we ask, “What resources are missing, and how can we help build them?”
Instead of offering one-time help and walking away, we build long-term relationships.
Instead of treating poverty as someone else’s issue, we recognize it as a community issue — and we become part of the solution.

CORE COMMUNITY IS SOLVING POVERTY
Core Community is Not a Financial Assistance Program.
While financial skills and stability are addressed, the approach is intentionally holistic. Participants focus on decision-making, emotional resilience, goal setting, healthy relationships, and long-term planning.
Families also need emotional strength, healthy relationships, trust, communication skills, spiritual support, role models, practical knowledge, and people they can call when life gets hard.
That is why Core Community takes a holistic approach. Each week, participants build resources that help them move toward lasting stability — not just for today, but for the next generation.
By combining practical tools, accountability, and ongoing support, the program helps participants move from short-term survival toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
Core Community is Different.
Core Community is:
-
A proven model — Since 2015, Core Community has been helping rural communities in Kansas change the way they respond to poverty.
-
Local — Each community owns the work and surrounds families with nearby support.
-
Relationship-focused — Real change happens through trusted, consistent relationships.
-
Practical — Participants work on real-life areas such as employment, housing, transportation, finances, education, health, and family stability.
-
Long-term — Core Community does not disappear after a class ends. Relationships and support can continue for many years.
-
Measurable — Core Community tracks real outcomes, including increased income, decreased assistance, family stability, and progress across key areas of life.
-
Hope-filled — We believe people can grow, families can stabilize, and communities can become stronger when neighbors choose to step in.
YOU CAN LEAD THE CHANGE
Core Community invites you to Lead the Change — right in your community, with people you may already pass at the grocery store, sit beside at ballgames, or see around town.
